The appellation Champagne is cultivated in 5 French departments (geographical districts): Marne, Aube, Aisne, Haute-Marne and Seine-et-Marne, on an 81,544-acre high-lime and marlstone soil. The main three grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. On this vineyard, the annual production amounts to 2,500,000 hectolitres.
